NOTES FROM THE PRESIDENT . . .
Greetings from the VMATYC Executive Board! The board held a virtual meeting via VCCS Interactive Video equipment using seven different sites on Friday, January 22, 2010.
We discussed many issues including reports on membership, the treasury, and regional conferences. Plans for the 2010 Spring VMATYC Conference, Unlock Your Potential in Keysville, were reviewed at length.
Best practices for using the new website www.vmatyc.org in conjunction with the VCCS hosted BLACKBOARD site, Mathematics and Computer Science Peer Group, were explored. As VCCS mathematics and computer science faculty, all are enrolled in the BLACKBOARD site. Please feel free to share your insights. A great avenue for this will be the Distance Education and Instructional Technology Special Interest Group (DEIT SIG) meeting at conference.
Potential locations for future spring conferences are being sought. Perhaps your college would volunteer to host.
N. V. Fitton brought exciting news from NVCC concerning changes in the Computer Science curriculum there. We are expecting to receive more details on this at conference.
Sarah Martin and I are currently serving on the VCCS Developmental Mathematics Redesign Team. Several members of the team including Donna Jovanovich from the VCCS office, we will be sharing on the work of this team at the spring conference.
I look forward to seeing as many as you as possible at Southside Virginia Community College, Daniel Campus, on April 2 and 3! Consider taking time to explore Patrick Henry's home place while in the area.
Feel free to contact me with questions or concerns.
Ann Loving, President
